My website is not appearing on Google search results

Do you expect to see your site in the regular results or paid ads, or both, in the search engine results page? The two areas are very different in terms of how your website is displayed (or not) on Google.

Regular results are product of Google visiting and examining sites for suitability against a keyword. The process of making a website more suitable for visits from a search engine against keywords is known as Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). The aim of Google is to provide the most relevant information possible for its users searching for a subject via keywords. So, the aim of SEO is to make a website as relevant as possible for a desirable keyword search.
With only very small amount of places available on the first results page, it is often a challenge to appear in the regular results, especially where the keyword you wish to appear for is commercial in nature. Another contributing difficulty is the secretive nature of the search engine’s requirements to rank websites against keywords.
Finally, it is possible that the address of your website may be prevented from appearing, either permanently or temporarily, in Google. This can sometimes happen with new URL’s, or where the search engine finds unsuitable content at that address.

Paid Ads or Sponsored Links are small text advertisements that usually cost an advertiser when a click is made on the ad. This process is called Pay Per Click (PPC). Google’s brand of PPC is known as Adwords. The advertiser chooses the keywords (searches) they want to appear under and a bid an amount they are prepared to pay per click. This amount, along with other factors such as relevancy and the amount willing to spend per day, determine how visible an ad is.
As with SEO, if a keyword is commercial in nature, it will cost an advertiser more to compete against the competition to get into the most visible positions to attract clicks. In some cases you ad may rarely appear out of the many searches performed on Google, giving the impression it is not showing at all. Another reason your ad may not appear is if your ad has been suspended due to inappropriate ad text or landing page, keywords that do not have any history of searches, and many more reasons. Tools within Adwords can identify why an ad is not appearing.
